Founded in honour of the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games, Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra has developed into one of Japan’s foremost orchestras and continues to serve as a cultural ambassador both locally, within its own communities, and in Europe, North America and Asia, most recently touring Europe in 2015 under the baton of Kazushi Ono, its Music Director.

  • Alan Gilbert serves as Principal Guest Conductor, Kazuhiro Koizumi as Honorary Conductor for Life and Eliahu Inbal as Conductor Laureate
  • TMSO gives over 50 school concerts a year, among its wide range of outreach activities
  • Awards include Kyoto Music Award and two Japanese Record Academy Awards
  • Currently serving as Music Ambassador of Capital Tokyo
