bringing sound to life
‘The animations resulted in an engaging experience that built on the foundation of the music – a success!’
Bachtrack
Grégoire Pont has always been passionate about making classical music more popular and accessible to both children and adults by means of animation. He developed a new performance concept of Cinesthetics, where he draws and animates live to a musical performance.
Pont brings his witty and whimsical real-time animations to favourite classical music scores, offering audiences spellbinding new connections between eyes, ears and mind. Repertoire includes music by Bartók, Beethoven, Debussy, Elgar, Holst, Ravel, Saint-Saëns, Schönberg and Stravinsky.
Recent Cinesthetic performances include Ravel’s Ma mère l’oye at Royal Festival Hall, Paris Philharmonie and Frankfurt Alte Oper; Schönberg’s Gurrelieder and Elgar’s Enigma Variations in Gothenburg; Debussy’s La mer at Tokyo’s Suntory Hall, Sauguet’s Les Forains with Orchestre National de Lille and Saint-Saens’ Le carnival des animaux with Les Siècles.
‘My wish is to use animation as a living matter. Not to project video sequences on a screen as so often happens in concert. With music and motion interplaying, sound is embodied and brought to life’
