Viva Maestro: a gala concert in honour of Kazushi Ono
Sunday 11 June: Kazushi Ono, celebrating 9 years of collaboration with Opéra de Lyon, will be conducting a feast of opera arias and symphonic music. Among them, the programme will contain extracts from operas that were performed during his tenure (Wagner, Berlioz), as well as operatic highlights (Puccini) and instrumental hits (first movement from Mozart's Concerto for two pianos played by two violins from the Orchestre de l'Opéra on this occasion) to show off the orchestra's rich range of colours.
Kazushi Ono was appointed principal conductor of Opéra National de Lyon in 2008. During this long association, he attracted international critical acclaim with landmark performances of works such as Prokofiev’s The Gamblers, Berg’s Lulu and Wagner’s Parsifal, and managed to reinforce the company’s creative profile with new productions such as the compelling double bill of Dallapiccola’s Il prigioniero and Schoenberg’s Erwartung (2013), Beethoven’s Fidelio, Britten’s Peter Grimes and The Turn of the Screw (2014), Debussy’s Pelléas et Mélisande, Berlioz’s La Damnation de Faust (2015) and Shostakovich’s Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk (2016).
