Miguel Harth-Bedoya makes Met debut
Miguel Harth-Bedoya will make his Metropolitan Opera debut in October conducting Golijov's Ainadamar, based on the life and work of the Spanish poet Federico García Lorca. The production is directed by Brazilian director and choreographer Deborah Colker, who has worked with Cirque du Soleil.
Harth-Bedoya has conducted the opera several times before, including the West Coast premiere with Los Angeles Philharmonic at Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2004 and at the New Zealand Festival in 2014 with New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. NBR wrote of the production: ‘Under conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya the NZSO brought out the rich tones of Golijov's melodic music, which combined seamlessly with the electronic and other recorded elements.’
He has previously conducted Jonathan Miller's production of La Bohème at English National Opera and Jennifer Higdon's Cold Mountain at Santa Fe Opera, the recording of which won a Grammy Award.
Harth-Bedoya conducts nine performances of the work between 15 October and 9 November.
