Maestro Arts signs Ersan Mondtag
We are thrilled to announce that Maestro Arts will represent Ersan Mondtag for his work as an opera director, set and costume designer.
Mondtag has one of the most distinctive theatrical visions in the world today and brings it to life through stunning stage and costume designs. In recent years he has successfully transferred these artistic sensibilities to opera, having made his opera debut in 2020 with Schreker’s Der Schmied von Gent for Opera Vlaanderen in Antwerp and Ghent, a co-production with Nationaltheater Mannheim.
Christian White said: 'I'm very excited to be working with Ersan. I was blown away by his production of Antikrist when I saw it in January at Deutsche Oper Berlin – I'd never experienced anything like it before in the opera theatre. He manages to create a dream/nightmare-like reality that is completely convincing and enveloping, and which carries an enormous emotional weight. His sets and costumes are unlike anything that audiences have seen before, at once wildly imaginative but also incredibly detailed. I'm looking forward to helping him build his opera work around the world.'
Antikrist returns to Deutsche Oper Berlin in February 2023. This season Mondtag also created new productions of Der Silbersee for Opera Vlaanderen, Der Freischütz for Staatstheater Kassel, where he created his first theatre piece, Tyrannis in 2015, and Der Vampyr for Staatsoper Hannover.
Maestro Arts will represent Mondtag’s operatic work while schaefersphilippen will continue to manage his work in the theatre.
