Laurent Pelly's Lucia di Lammermoor opens at Opera Philadelphia
Conducted by Opera Philadelphia's Music Director Corrado Rovaris, and with sets designed by Chantal Thomas and costumes by Pelly himself, this new production forms the centre-piece of Opera Philadelphia's Festival 018. As a co-production with the Vienna State Opera, the production opens there in February 2019.
What the press says:
"Laurent Pelly’s searing staging, crisply played and superbly cast, showed that a fogy can burn with as much — if not more — fire as something fresh".
"I have seen many another accomplished production of this showpiece in my day, but none other quite gripped me by the collar and never let go like this one. .. a nonpareil melding of engrossing theatre and stunning music."
With a superb cast led by Brenda Rae, Michael Spyres and Christian Van Horn, Laurent Pelly "has helmed a potent, uniquely stylized staging of this perennial favourite with a decidedly sinister underbelly"
