Pelly and de Limburg enthrall audiences with their Golden Cockerel
Laurent Pelly's exuberant production of Rimsky Korsakov's opera The Golden Cockerel premiered on Tuesday 13 December at La Monnaie in Brussels under the musical direction of conductor Alain Altinoglu and the imaginative set designs by Barbara de Limburg.
This exuberant political satire opera is sure to draw out the spectacular in this timeless story where magical themes, sparkling music and flashes of Russian folk literature create a unique adventure filled with full rounded characters and vibrant sarcasm.
Principally inspired by Washington Irving and Pushkin, the libretto is by Vladimir Belsky, author of several libretti of a fairy-tale, legendary nature and an expert on Russian folk literature.
