Kazushi Ono conducts Midsummer Night's Dream in Aix
Robert Carsen's legendary production is revived at the Aix Festival and hasn't aged a bit. The fantastic set wth its funky colour scheme is as poetic and extraordinary as ever, creating a dreamlike and evocative atmosphere, perfectly suited to Shakespeare's comedy. Funny and very well balanced, the cast conveys all the charm of Britten's music with elegance and energy. The orchestra, "under the loving guidance of its principal conductor, Kazushi Ono" (Bachtrack - Mark Valencia), manages to create a heavenly sound, both complex and intriguing, tender and evocative.
4 performances to go - the last is on 20 July.
