Ilan Volkov conducts the UK premiere of David Lang's 'Prisoner of the State'
Ilan Volkov and the BBC Symphony Orchestra take to the Barbican Hall stage on Saturday 11th January with the UK premiere of David Lang’s new opera Prisoner of the State. Directed by Elkhanah Pulitzer this contemporary take on Beethoven’s Fidelio story launches the Barbican’s year of celebrations marking 250 years since Beethoven’s birth. The story follows a woman who disguises herself as a prison guard in order to free her husband from politically unjust imprisonment.
