François-Xavier Roth / Les Siècles Stravinsky CD wins Deutschenschallplattenkritik Prize
The German Record Critics have awarded François-Xavier Roth and Les Siècles recording (on instruments of the time of the premieres) of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Petrouchka one of its Recording of the Year Awards (Deutschenschallplattenkriticpreise).
These performances have already been widely acclaimed and the recording was included as one the of essential recordings of 2014 by The Sunday Times and was a BBC Music Magazine's Recording of the Month.
Explosive … performances of these modern classics give an impression of what it was like to be there in 1913 and 1911.
The Award makes a fitting approaching end to a major year for François-Xavier Roth as he took up the Position of General Music Director of the City of Cologne with concerts and his first opera in Cologne, Benvenuto Cellini in November, followed by his debut concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra earlier this month (now viewable in the orchestra's Digital Concert Hall). In the New Year, he returns to Boston for concerts with the Boston Symphony Orchestra with Renee Fleming and makes his debut with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
Les Siècles new CD France-Espagne was also Andrew Clements' top 3 pick of his 10 CDs of the year in The Guardian.
