François-Xavier Roth awarded Légion d'honneur
We congratulate François-Xavier Roth, created a Chevalier of the Order of the Légion d'honneur in the Bastille Day honours list.
Restricting the list to 101 nominees, with just four drawn from the world of culture and the arts, is a gesture intended by President Macron to "reinforce the symbolic value of the highest level of French distinction", according to the Elysée Palace (AFP).
Roth brings his orchestra, Les Siècles, to the BBC Proms on 16 August (in a programme of French music inspired by the Orient), takes up his new position as Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra from the start of the season, and opens his third season as General Music Director of the City of Cologne in September with a Festival concert and new production of Wagner's Tannhäuser.
