Elena Urioste has been nominated for the Instrumentalist Award of the Royal Philharmonic Society, as announced today on BBC Radio 3. The organisation was founded in 1813 and commissioned Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Previous winners of its Instrumentalist Award include Paul Lewis, Itzhak Perlman, Mitsuko Uchida and, most recently, Nicola Benedetti. Urioste won its 2020 Inspiration Award with pianist Tom Poster, for their #UriPosteJukeBox lockdown project.

Nominations are made by RPS members and shortlisted by an expert panel, with the stated aim being to 'shine much-needed light on inspirational individuals, groups and initiatives whose music has lifted hearts and minds across the nation'. The criteria for the Instrumentalist Award are 'the outstanding quality and scope of the performances, presented for a live audience or digitally, and the work in any context of an individual performer on any instrument in the UK'.

The awards will be held on 1 March 2023 at Queen Elizabeth Hall in London.
