DOMNIQ to tour A New Dawn II

DOMNIQ is to tour the second part of his project A New Dawn with break-dancer REDO in February and March, with 14 performances across the Netherlands. The work has its premiere in Dordrecht on 7 February and closes on 15 March in Haarlem.

A New Dawn is an innovative performance concept that combines visual art, live electronic music and dance in a modular format that allows total flexibility of content. In Part II the concept is developed further, using autobiographical elements, including REDO's own journey overcoming physical challenges to become a celebrated dancer. DOMNIQ has written five new pieces for percussion, electronics and dance, and the performance is directed by Peter Leung and includes poetry by Guus van der Steen.

Director Leung says: ‘This performance is groundbreaking because the performers go outside their own disciplines to tell their stories. To get closer to their stories, Redo creates music with his body, and DOMNIQ dances through his music. I cherish the intimate and vulnerable space that we have built together. This creates space for the public to embrace their own vulnerability.'

In an interview about the first part, DOMNIQ explained his artistic aims: ‘We want the audience to see us as artists on stage, dealing with a particular situation created in each specific space. Maybe they can be inspired by that. Sometimes they won’t know what’s about to happen and sometimes they will. Sometimes the visuals lead and sometimes the performers lead. I hope it will feel very exciting and impressive, with new music and beautiful dance.’

Movement Exposed reviewed the first part of A New Dawn at the Birds of Paradise Festival in 2022: 'The wow-factor of their virtuosity, the precise control of musicality and the inescapable humanity of the bodies involved, make these dance forms particularly fit to negotiate between abstract and material world.'
