Aida premieres at La Monnaie with stunning set designs by Alexander Polzin

Verdi's Aida opened at La Monnaie in Brussels on 16th May in a gripping performance with magnificent set designs by Alexander Polzin

Aida tells the story of a fascinating and tense love triangle between the Egyptian princess, Amneris, Ramades, an officer, and Aida, a Nubian princess, captured and reduced to slavery.  Set in Egypt, it was commissioned by and first performed at Cairo's Khedivial Opera House in 1871. 

The La Monnaie production directed by the Artistic Director of the National Theatre of Greece, Stathis Livathinos, with costumes by Andrea Schmidt-Futterer sees the title role shared between two Aidas, the American soprano Adina Aaron and the Italian soprano Monica Zanettin.
