Sommer Ulrickson
Choreographer
This is Gagern's second Music-Theatre collaboration with choreographer Sommer Ulrickson at the Neukoellener Oper. She both directs and performs the role of Hilde, alongside singer Olivia Stahn, actor Christian Bo Alle and the composer himself, who provides… a magical, provocative accompaniment… This production reawakens how Wagner is and was received.
California-born Sommer Ulrickson enjoys a career as choreographer, actor and director, working throughout the US and Europe and regularly receiving state funding and commissions from theatres for the creation of original works and the development of new musical-theatre pieces.
In the opera house recent work includes movement direction for Jephtha (director Claus Guth) for Dutch National Opera in co-production with Opéra national de Paris, Salome (also with Claus Guth) at the Deutsche Oper, and Salome with Hans Neuenfeld at the Berlin Staatsoper. Other highlights include co-directing Fidelio at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl in collaboration with sculptor / stage designer Alexander Polzin, as well as Ferne Naehe, a new opera commissioned by Hellerau Festspielhaus in Dresden.
