‘His gestures alternated beautifully between the expressive and the lively... always in command and in control yet sensitive to the subtle balance of these winning, sentimental works’

Conductor Pablo Rus Broseta is distinguished by his dynamic programming and thoughtful interpretations. He has developed an extensive repertoire, ranging from Rameau to John Adams, giving special attention to the great symphonic repertoire and new music. Having previously served as Music Director of Jove Orquestra de la Generalitat Valenciana and Assistant and then Associate Conductor of Seattle Symphony Orchestra, he is currently Music Director of Grup Mixtour, a chamber orchestra he formed in 2011 to champion eclectic and diverse programmes.

Highlights of the 2024–25 season include a production of Pierrot Lunaire at Palau de les Arts, a programme of works by the Slovenian composer Nina Senk with Ensemble Modern and a return to Basel Sinfonietta. He also conducts Orquesta y Coro Nacionales de España at their FOCUS Festival. In recent seasons, he has led multiple projects with SWR Stuttgart and Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, and made his debut with Bilbao Orkestra Sinfonikoa and Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León.

As a tireless advocate of new music, Rus Broseta thrives on taking risks with new works and has collaborated closely with composers such as Wolfgang Rihm, Johannes Maria Staud, Thomas Adès, Philippe Manoury, Magnus Lindberg, Francisco Coll and Luca Francesconi. He has also appeared at new music festivals such as Klangspuren Schwaz, Festival Musica Strasbourg, Donaueschingen Music Festival and Frankfurt’s Cresc…, as well as the multidisciplinary Transart Festival Bolzano.

‘I love new music because it gives me the opportunity to create sound. When you start from scratch, you have a chance to build it from the beginning. It’s very interesting to give life to a new type of music’
