There is no musician today better equipped to play it than the minstrel-like Power, who sounded properly fired up and downright inspired from first note to last.
Lawrence Power is one of today’s foremost violists, in demand worldwide as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber music partner. His eloquent artistry and penetrating musicianship gains him constant plaudits around the world, reflected in turn in eloquent reviews: ‘No musician today better equipped to play than the minstrel-like Power’ (Financial Times), ‘Power seduces you permanently’ (Trouw), ‘Power is something more: a profound musical personality, his every phrase new and noteworthy’ (Sunday Times), 'He is a player of poise, elegance and individuality' (The Chicago Sun Times), an endorsement underlined by Gramophone’s praise for 'his agility at speed, his warm, walnut tone… and the innate musicality of his phrasing'.
He is regularly invited to perform with some of the world’s greatest orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, the Boston Symphony, the Royal Concertgebouw, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Stockholm Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia, the BBC Scottish Symphony and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestras. He has performed Penderecki’s Viola Concerto in a series of concerts with Camerata Salzburg conducted by the composer.
Power was honoured with the 2020 RPS Instrumentalist Award, made ‘For the outstanding quality and scope of the performances and work in any context of a solo performer on any instrument in the UK’.
