Rizzi opens the Metropolitan Opera season with new production of Norma

Carlo Rizzi has the honour of opening the season at the Metropolitan Opera, New York on 25 September with a new production of Bellini's Norma, directed by Sir David McVicar. The Metropolitan Opera has assembled a stellar cast of Bel canto specialists in Sondra Radvanovsky, Joyce DiDonato, Joseph Calleja and Matthew Rose; Rizzi will conduct seven performances until 20 October. 

Continuing the Met’s annual tradition, Opening Night will be transmitted live and for free to giant screens in Times Square. Pre-show commences at 18:00, and the opera will begin at 18:30. Attendance is free, and no tickets are required. Seats will be available on a first-come, first-served basis at Duffy Square (between 46th and 47th Streets) and Broadway Plaza (between 43rd and 44th Streets), with additional standing room available.

An audio stream of the Opening Night Gala will be broadcast live on Metropolitan Opera Radio on SiriusXM and streamed live on the Met’s website.

With the first performance on 12 October, Mo. Rizzi will also conduct the much loved Zeffirelli production of Puccini's Turandot for ten performances, this production runs until 16 November.
