OBC 2015-16 season under new musical director, Kazushi Ono

As its newly appointed musical director, Kazushi Ono has just launched the 15/16 season of the famous institution, the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya (in short OBC).

And what a launch! First live from La Sagrada Famila, the programme, inspired by the unique atmosphere of the cathedral, offered Improvisation for organ solo by Bernat Vivancos, followed by the Signal from heaven by the Japanese composer Toru Takemitsu. After Mozart's motet Exultate Jubilate was heard at the end of the concert, Fauré's Requiem.

This combination of two of the most important aspects of the cultural identity of Barcelona was met by the audience with a great response: 24000 queries received for 1800 raffled off free tickets!

The concert for the opening of the season took place the following week at l'Auditori, with yet another enchanting programme: Parra's In Fall (composer in residence), Prokofiev's Violin Concerto no 2 and Ravel's colorful and contrasted Daphnis et Chloé, "a striking version which generates good auspices in the first concert at l'Auditori" (Xavier Cester, Ara, 28 September 2015).
