HEATHER BETTSGlyndebourne - Hamlet - Works on paper
Maestro Arts is delighted to exhibit works on paper by Heather Betts in the Stalls gallery, Glyndebourne. Focussing on Betts' fascination with the themes found in Hamlet, the exhibition shows a glimpse into a body of work started in 2011 when her husband, composer Brett Dean, was commissioned to create the new opera for Glyndebourne. Through the works Betts has explored the essence of thought underlining Hamlet’s story; the trajectory of fate. The exhibition coincides with the tour of the highly acclaimed new opera, Hamlet and with an exhibition of oils by Betts in the foyer at Glyndebourne.
Betts' fascination with the basic human instincts underlies her work. The belief that throughout time, what drives us remains the same; we can all relate to Hamlet. She explores the complex and intricate folds of Hamlet’s story and its wealth of insight into the construction and study of its characters.
