Lawrence Power is one of today’s foremost violists, in demand worldwide as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber music partner. His eloquent artistry and penetrating musicianship were acknowledged in 2015 when he was shortlisted for the Royal Philharmonic Society Instrumentalist Award. “He is a player of poise, elegance and individuality,” observed the Chicago Sun Times, an endorsement underlined by Gramophone’s praise for “his agility at speed, his warm, walnut tone…and the innate musicality of his phrasing”.
He is regularly invited to perform with some of the world’s greatest orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, the Boston Symphony, the Royal Concertgebouw, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Stockholm Philharmonic, and Bergen Philharmonic. Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Philharmonia and the BBC Scottish Symphony and Royal Liverpool Philharmonic orchestras. He has performed Penderecki’s Viola Concerto in a series of concerts with Camerata Salzburg conducted by the composer.
Lawrence Power became Artistic Director of the English Chamber Orchestra Charitable Trust in May 2016. He is also founder and Artistic Director of West Wycombe Chamber Music Festival.
