‘Modest in demeanour but colossal in what he achieves’
Limelight Magazine
Eivind Aadland is the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. His tenure is defined by a deep, responsive bond with musicians and a reputation for musical sensitivity—qualities that have fostered long-term international partnerships, most notably his definitive five-volume Grieg cycle with the WDR Symphony Orchestra Köln and ongoing relationship with the Oslo Philharmonic.
Aadland is a dedicated pedagogue and plays a vital role in shaping the future of the craft through his leadership within Dirigentloftet, Norway’s premier mentoring scheme for young conductors, and his ongoing commitment to the National Youth Orchestra. This investment in the next generation ensures his influence extends far beyond his own podium.
His artistic identity is, in part, uniquely shaped by his passion for contemporary visual art. As an avid collector, Aadland frequently bridges the gap between sound and sight, collaborating with artists like Mat Collishaw and Elina Brotherus to create immersive, multidisciplinary experiences. This sophisticated lens allows him to present masterworks as modern, visual-musical dialogues.
'A beautiful communicator and collaborator... he instinctively understands how to draw the best from each and every player'
Emma McGrath, concertmaster of Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra
